Sinopsis:

Shadows, characterized by their pitch-black appearance and tendency to let out soot when restless, are noble families living in noble houses deep within the mountains far from other humans. When a Shadow child is almost an adult, they are given a Living Doll that acts not only as their servant but also as their second half—a face they could have had if it weren't for their skin.

Emilico is a newly created cheerful Doll who serves a rather soft-spoken master named Kate. Despite their personality differences, Emilico did what he could to meet his master's needs. As he learns more about his roles and duties, Emilico begins to meet fellow Puppets and their respective masters and learns more about the purpose of his existence.

"Don't worry about trivial matters," said one of the rules that all Puppets must abide by. But how could the ever-inquisitive Emilico do so in the face of the deep secrets that Shadows House has?
